Throughout the 1990s, I figured that if we want to resist this unsettling trend in the government to outlaw cryptography, one measure we can apply is to use cryptography as much as we can now while it's still legal. When use of strong cryptography becomes popular, it's harder for the government to criminalize it. Therefore, using PGP is good for preserving democracy. If privacy is outlawed, only outlaws will have privacy.

Other Talking Points What to say to Parents about our Curriculum: RSM approach to teaching math is based on a Russian Methodology that is focused on understanding , not memorization. Our goal is to develop logical and reasoning skills and to deepen understanding and appreciation of math. You came on time, because the first teacher will develop the methods of how the child will learn the math and the appreciation for math (facts to memorize or data to analyze ) The human mind is not designed to hold unconnected pieces of information. Math is about reasoning. We teach students how to think logically, and how to derive their conclusions from previous knowledge, rather than how to memorize a number of unrelated math facts. Our students acquire the ability to think theoretically, which then enables one to attain an understanding of mathematical concepts at their most abstract and generalized level. If mathematics is to be understood at its deepest structural level, children must learn to think theoretically. Educators in the US, influenced by Piagetian “levels of development,” have assumed that students were not capable of abstract thinking until their adolescent years. However, Russian psychologists working in the Vygotskian tradition, assert that from the age of about seven, children are capable of developing the ability to think theoretically. Elementary School Our elementary school curriculum is critical for developing a proper understanding and appreciation of mathematics. This first impression sets the the framework on how a student will view math. Our teachers instill in the student a high level of comfort with math. Math is easy when one starts early. Our goal is to develop logical and reasoning skills and to deepen understanding and appreciation of math. Grades K-1 (Needs to be reviewed with Irina Khavinson for more clarification _ Relationship between Quantities, Equations and Symbolic Expressions Grade 1 curriculum begins with an exploration of quantitative properties of real objects. Length, width, volume, area and weight, are examples of "quantities". The students learn to compare objects and to determine whether they are equal to respect to some quantitative property, and to use a line segment model. However, the use of letters is also designed to move children forward in their level of abstract thinking. Children learn that in some cases, by using information about the equality relationships between quantities, they can logically deduce new relationships without having to measure or build the quantities. This rather quick movement from working with concrete objects to sometimes applying abstract ideas to something that cannot be confirmed empirically is part of the curriculum approach. In summary, the first portion of grade 1 develops children's understanding of an equality and inequality relationship and actions with literal symbolism, and the relationship between the literal formulas A=B-C and A+C = B. Children also learn to interpret a number as expression of relationship between two quantities, and interpretation that will extend to fractional numbers and eventually irrational numbers.
